On 05/20/2019 at approximately 10:40pm, Rehoboth Police dispatch received a call of erratic operator of a motor vehicle on Plain St (Rt 118) in the area of the Rehoboth/Swansea Town Line. Officers were dispatched to the area. The caller described the vehicle as a gray Subaru Baja pick-up truck. Officers located the vehicle travelling north on Plain St. still being operated in an erratic manner, including driving very slowly, failing to stay within marked lanes, and failing to stop at a stop sign. After signaling the vehicle to stop Officers were finally able to stop the vehicle about a half a mile later on Cedar St. After a brief roadside investigation, which included field sobriety testing, Officers placed the operator, and single occupant of the vehicle, under arrest. The operator who was identified as 48 year old Edward Fortier of 37 Bark St in Swansea, Massachusetts was taken to the Rehoboth Police Department for processing. Fortier will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on 5/21/19 on the following charges, OUI(liquor), Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Stop for Police, Fail to stop/yield stop sign, and marked lanes violation.
