On 12/03/2016 at approximately 2057hrs the Rehoboth Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a vehicle parked in the roadway on Lake Street with an unresponsive male driver behind the wheel. The caller reported the driver was not responding to the callers attempts to wake him and the vehicle was still running and in gear. Upon arrival Officer Louis Dibacco located a black Nissan sedan stopped in the southbound travel lane on Lake St. in the area of Bassam Drive. Upon investigating the incident Officer Dibacco observed a male party unconscious in the driver’s seat with his foot on the brake pedal and the vehicle still in drive. It took several attempts to raise the male party who was determined to have been sleeping. Upon speaking with the operator Officer Dibacco detected signs of impairment and he conducted a further investigation. Subsequently Richard Amaral, age 50 of Seekonk MA, was taken into custody and charged with OUI Liquor and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Amaral was taken to the Rehoboth Police Station for processing and later released by the Bail Clerk on personal recognizance. Sgt. Norman Todd assisted Officer Dibacco with his investigation and arrest.
