On 12-23-2016 Rehoboth Police received a call from the Child Advocacy Center in Fall River, MA requesting an Officer to respond to their location to interview a juvenile who was alleging a past assault committed by a parent. Also, Dighton Police Officer Gregg Steele responded to the Rehoboth Police Department to inform Rehoboth Police that Dighton Rehoboth High School officials noticed physical injuries to the juvenile and these injuries were photographed by Dighton Police. Dighton Police obtained a statement from the juvenile who alleged the injuries were caused by his father, Brandon Defaria. The juvenile was brought to the Department of Children & Families office by his grandmother and then later was transported to the Child Advocacy Center for an interview. Rehoboth Police Officer Jasson Ferreira contacted the Department of Children & Families and the agency confirmed that the incident has already been reported to them and that Investigator Justin Volpe was assigned to investigate the matter. Detective James Casey responded to the Child Advocacy Center in Fall River and after speaking with the juvenile, Detective Casey informed Officer Ferreira that there was probable cause to arrest the alleged perpetrator. Rehoboth Police responded to the residence of Brandon Defaria responded to attempt to take him into custody. Officer Gregory Decastro established contact with Brandon Defaria “via” his cellular phone and requested he come outside, the request was initially refused. However, a short time later Defaria complied with the request and he was arrested without incident by Officer Decastro. Brandon Defaria was transported to the station in vehicle 13 and booked in the usual manner and charged with four (4) counts of Assault & Battery on a family member. Bail was set at $240.00 by Clerk-Magistrate Marc Santos and Defaria will be transported to Bristol County Sheriff Office Lock-up located at Ash Street in New Bedford, MA.
