On 03/10/2018 at approximately 5:35 PM Rehoboth officers responded to Rt44 near the intersection of Rt118 for the report of a vehicle stopped in traffic and the operator was unresponsive. Upon arrival Ofc. Wetherell and Sgt. Forget observed a white Honda CRV stopped in the eastbound lane with a male operator that appeared to be sleeping. Officers were unable to gain entry into the vehicle due to the doors being locked. Officer Wetherell and Sgt. Forget began banging on the windows and yelling in an attempt to wake up the operator. After several attempts the operator awoke and unlocked the doors. Sergeant Forget reached in and placed the vehicle into park and turned off the engine. Officer DiBacco arrived and requested that the operator who was identified as Antonio O. Monteiro 10/18/54 of Cohannet St Taunton, MA exit the vehicle and submit to field sobriety tests. At the completion of these tests Monteiro was placed under arrest and transported to the Rehoboth police station for the booking process. Monteiro has been charged with OUI-liquor and Negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He was booked and later released on Personal recognizance. Monteiro is scheduled to appear in Taunton District court on Monday March 12, 2018 for arraignment for the above mentioned charges.
