REHOBOTH POLICE MAKE ARMED ROBBERY ARREST

On 12/10/2021 Rafael GONZALEZ, age 52 of Rehoboth, was arrested in the City of Boston on an outstanding Rehoboth Police Arrest Warrant. GONZALEZ was wanted in connection with the 12/05/21 Armed Robbery of a Rehoboth business. 

On 12/05/21 at approx.. 1700hrs Rehoboth Police were dispatched to a Winthrop Street business for a past robbery.  The victim reported being robbed by a male subject who was wearing a mask and armed with a pipe. The suspect threatened the clerk with the pipe and demanded money from the cash draw.  The suspect then fled the store on foot. The subsequent investigation culminated in an arrest warrant being sought for GONZALEZ in the Taunton District Court on 12/09/21.

GONZALEZ will be arraigned in Taunton District Court for the charge of  ARMED ROBBERY WHILE MASKED.  This investigation remains on-going and anyone with additional information is asked to contact Det. Paul McGovern at the Rehoboth Police Department 508-252-3722 ext.1135.

3 Arrested after Vehicle Pursuit

On 02/24/2021, at approximately 8:15PM, officers from the Rehoboth Police Department responded to Winthrop St. (Rte 44) for a report of a red Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.  This vehicle was inbound traveling east on Rte 44 from Seekonk.  It was reported that it was passing vehicles and causing vehicles traveling westbound to swerve to avoid a head on collision.  One the vehicle was spotted by officers from Rehoboth it was determined that the vehicle reached speeds of 140mph.  As the vehicle approached the intersection of Rte 44 and Rte 118 its speed was 103mph.  Ptlm. David Aguiar was able to stop all traffic at the intersection and deploy “Stop Sticks”.  Ptlm. Aguiar was successful in deflating the tires of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The vehicle continued traveling eastbound.  It made an abrupt left turn at Williams St. and immediately pulled into a driveway.  Ptlm. Louis DiBacco, Ptlm. Mark Wetherell and Ptlm. Nicholas Bellavance followed the vehicle into the driveway where it spun out of control.  Three occupants were found in the vehicle and it was initially believed that the operator fled.  The occupants were identified as 20 year old Justin Vargas, 20 year old Michael Vargas and 27 year old Narciso Urena all of Queens, NY.  All three subjects were initially detained pending the investigation.  Sgt. Fundakowski began a search for the operator and the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing also responded to assist with the search.

During an inventory of the vehicle officers located items in the vehicle known to be utilized in the theft of motor vehicle parts (particularly catalytic converters).  During this inventory Ptlm. Mark Wetherell illuminated the driver’s seat and noticed a shoe impression on the driver’s seat.  This indicated that the operator switched seats.  It was then determined that Justin Vargas was the operator of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

All three subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Rehoboth Police Station.  They were booked bail was set for all three.  They were unable to make bail and were transported to the New Bedford House of Corrections.  All three are being charged with possession of a burglarious instrument.  Justin Vargas is also being charged with the following: (1) Failure to stop for police.  (2) Reckless operation of a motor vehicle.  They are due to appear in Taunton District Court on 02/25/2021 at 8:30AM.

Rehoboth Police Bust Large Marijuana Grow

On 10/14/2020 at approximately 1p.m. members of the Rehoboth Police Department executed a search warrant at a commercial property in the rear of #495 Winthrop Street.  The search was the result of an on-going investigation involving a large scale marijuana grow.  At the time the warrant was served police encountered several individuals inside of large garage and attached building.  Police encountered a large scale marijuana cultivation operation where over 200 mature plants and additional packaged marijuana was found. Also at the scene was a 4 year old juvenile who was later released to the custody of the Department of Children and Families.  Police also recovered two loaded firearms and a loaded assault rifle inside the building which were seized.  Arrested at the scene were: Moises Montero age 33 of Seekonk, Katitlin Munroe age 30 of Seekonk, Carlos Cabeza age 42 of Waueregan CT, Luilly Escotto age 32 of Lowell, MA, Henry Vilomar of Bronx, NY.  All parties were charged with Cultivation of Marijuana, Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws, Possession of firearm without an FID Card, Possession of Ammunition without an FID card and Possession of a Large Capacity Rifle. Rehoboth Police were assisted by members of the Norther Bristol County Drug Task Force.  All individuals will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on 10/15/2020

Taunton Man Arrested

On 12/28/2019 the Rehoboth Police Department had officers assigned to the targeted enforcement of impaired drivers as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. These  shifts were funded by a grant received from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Office of Grants and Research (OGR) to increase the number of impaired driving patrols during the holiday season. At approximately 01:33 hrs. Officer Gil Lima observed a vehicle travelling east bound on Rt.44 at 60mph in the posted 45mph zone. Upon stopping the vehicle for the violation, he immediately detected an odor of intoxicating liquor and observed signs of impairment. He was assisted by Sgt. Richard W. Shailor and Officer Adam Brown during his roadside investigation which included field sobriety tests. At the completion of the investigation, the operator of the vehicle, Kevin Mayo 33 years old of Taunton was arrested and charged with Operating under the influence of alcohol, and speeding.   He is due in Taunton District court on Monday to be arraigned on the charges.

2nd Offense OUI Arrest

On 12/29/2019 at approx. 8:13p.m. the Rehoboth Police Department received a 911 cellular call from a witness reporting a vehicle driving erratically on Slater Street in Rehoboth.  The caller reported the vehicle was traveling on wrong side of the roadway and in and out of its lane.  The witness was able to signal for the vehicle to pull over and reported the vehicle was stopped on at the corner of Brander Road and Slater Street.  Upon arrival Officer Ranley made contact with the driver who was identified as Jennifer GOUSIE, age 49, of Rehoboth.  Officers on scene conducted a roadside investigation and determined GOUSIE had been operating her motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor. GOUSIE was subsequently taken into custody and charged with OUI LIQUOR 2nd Offense and Driving to Endanger.  GOUISE was later released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on 12/30/19.

Dighton Man Arrested for OUI

On 12/20/2019, 6:37 PM, Ptlm. Gilbert Lima stopped a blue Ford Focus with a North Carolina registration on Reynolds Ave. due to the fact that it had an expired registration out of North Carolina.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as 59 year old Raymond Silva of Chestnut St. in Dighton, Massachusetts.  As Ptlm. Lima spoke with Mr. Silva he observed signs and symptoms of intoxication due to the consumption of alcohol.  Ptlm. Christopher Pezzuolo responded to Ptlm. Lima’s location to assist him with his investigation.  Ptlm. Lima’s investigation included field sobriety tests.  Following the investigation Mr. Silva was taken into custody without incident.  He was transported to the station where he was booked.  Mr. Silva was later released on personal recognizance and is due to appear in Taunton District Court on 12/23/2019, at 8:30 AM.  Mr. Silva was charged with Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Millville Man Arrested for OUI

On October 25, 2019, at approximately 7:35pm, the Rehoboth Police Department received two separate 911 calls related to a motor vehicle being operated at a high rate of speed traveling westbound on Winthrop St. (Rte 44) entering Rehoboth.  In addition to the high rate of speed it was reported that the suspect vehicle was passing other vehicles also traveling westbound and came close to hitting several vehicles traveling eastbound head on.  The vehicle was described as a dark colored sports car.  Ptlm. Mark Wetherell and Ptlm. Christopher Pezzuolo responded to the area.  Ptlm. Wetherell located a black Hyundai Tiburon with a Massachusetts registration traveling east on Winthrop St. in the area of Williams St.  Ptlm. Wetherell was then advised that the Hyundai was the suspect vehicle.  At the time that Ptlm. Wetherell first observed the Hyundai it crossed the fog line and was close to leaving the roadway.  Ptlm. Wetherell attempted to stop the vehicle and it continued traveling westbound.  While following the vehicle with his emergency lights on he observed the vehicle cross the center line three times and the fog line two more times.  He also noted that the vehicle would speed up and slow down.  The vehicle came to a stop just east of 295 Winthrop St.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as 36 year old Peter Cardin of Albion St. in Millville, Massachusetts.  Ptlm. Wetherell noticed that Mr. Cardin’s movements were extremely slow and lethargic while attempting to obtain documents he was asked to produce.  Ptlm. Wetherell observed that Mr. Cardin displayed other signs and symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol.  Mr. Cardin was extremely unsteady on his feet and for safety reasons Mr. Cardin was not subject to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.  Mr. Cardin was taken into custody and he was transported to the Rehoboth Police Station where he was booked. 

Following the booking process Mr. Cardin was released on personal recognizance.  He is scheduled to appear in Taunton District Court on October 28, 2019, at 8:30am.  He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and operating a motor vehicle as to endanger.

Taunton Man Arrested for Drug Distribution

On 09/03/2019, at approximately 0025hrs, Sgt. James Casey was traveling east on Winthrop St. (Rte 44).  At this time he observed a red Mercedes C Sedan with a Massachusetts registration plate traveling west on Winthrop St. (Rte 44).  Sgt. Casey noticed that the Mercedes had a head light that was not working and he reversed direction to initiate the stop of the vehicle.  The vehicle initially stopped on Winthrop St. in the area of Camp Ramsbottom but took off as Sgt. Casey approached the vehicle.  Sgt. Casey pursued the vehicle and caught up to it after it took a right onto Anawan St.  The vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road and Sgt. Casey observed the operator move to the passenger seat.  He observed the front seat passenger exit the vehicle and run around it in attempt to get in the driver’s seat.  In addition to the two subject seated in the front of the vehicle a female was located in the rear passenger seat.  All three subjects were ordered out of the vehicle and asked to lie in a prone position.  Ptlm. Nicholas Miranda and Ptlm. Adam Brown responded to assist Sgt. Casey.  The operator was identified as 34 year old James Mitchell of Prospect St. in Taunton.  It was learned that Mr. Mitchell had a suspended driver’s license.  During an inventory of the vehicle officers found a large amount of drugs suspected to be heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine.  Mr. Mitchell was transported to the Rehoboth Police Station where he was book.  Bail was set at $7,540.00 and Mr. Mitchell was transported to the New Bedford House of Corrections.  Mr. Mitchell is due to appear in Taunton District Court on 09/03/2019, at approximately 0830hrs.  He was charged with the following: (1) Drug distribute Class A subsequent Offense.  (2) Drug Distribute Class B Subsequent offense.  (3) Failure to Stop for Police.  (4) License suspended operation of a motor vehicle with; subsequent offense.  (5) Defective Equipment.  The passengers of the vehicle were released without charges at this time.

One Arrested after Crash

On 08/31/2019 at approximately 20:37 hrs. The Rehoboth Police received a report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of 34 Elm St.  The caller stated that the vehicle had flipped over and that there were 2 subjects still in the vehicle.  The Rehoboth Police, Fire and Ambulance all responded to the scene. Upon arrival the operator of the vehicle and a young juvenile passenger had managed to get out of the overturned vehicle. An investigation of the crash showed that the vehicle was travelling Northeast on Elm St. at an extremely high rate of speed.  The vehicle first struck a large stone wall that is part of the bridge on Elm St. It destroyed a 6-7 foot section of the wall before continuing another 100 feet. The vehicle then struck a light post and a large boulder.  The vehicle hit the boulder so hard it threw it approximately 45 feet and caused the car to flip over and travel another 37 feet on its roof before coming to rest.   After detecting signs of impairment, Officers conducted an investigation of the operator which included standardized field sobriety tests.  At the completion of the investigation Nuno Alves 42, of Rehoboth was placed in custody and charged with: Operating under the influence of alcohol, Child endangerment while OUI, Operating to Endanger, and Marked lanes violation.  Alves was transported to an area hospital for injuries and later released for booking. Alves was later released on $540.00 bail and is scheduled for arraignment on 09/03/2019 in Taunton District Court.  The juvenile passenger was also transported to an area hospital by Rehoboth Ambulance for evaluation. Ofc. Pezzuolo, Ofc. Sousa, Ofc. Ranley and Sgt. Shailor assisted with the investigation and subsequent arrest.

Man Arrested for Driving while High.

                On 08/07/2019 at approximately 0305Hrs members of the Rehoboth and Swansea Police departments responded to the area of Plain St. in Rehoboth near the Swansea town line for the report of an erratic operator. The vehicle was described as a white Mercedes bearing MA 4MX687.  After a search of the area officers from Swansea observed the vehicle traveling south on Plain St. near Martin St. in Rehoboth.  Swansea notified Rehoboth police that there officers would be stopping this vehicle for public safety concern do to its operation. When Rehoboth officers Craig Warish, Sgt. Craig Forget, and Ofc. Dave Aguiar arrived the operator was asked to exit the vehicle and perform a roadside assessment.  At the completion of this assessment the operator who had been identified as 22 year old Jared Jorge of Taunton, MA was arrested and charged with OUI-Drugs, Negligent operation of a M/V, and Marked lanes violation. He was transported to the Rehoboth police station for booking and later transported to the Taunton district court for arraignment.
