On 03/16/2014 Sgt. Richard W. Shailor of the Rehoboth police Department was patrolling Rt. 44 in the area of the Seekonk line when his cruiser was nearly struck by a vehicle travelling east bound in the west bound lane at a high rate of speed. The vehicle later passed another vehicle in a no passing zone before Sgt. Shailor was able to get the vehicle stopped. After further investigation the operator of the vehicle, Elsie Mendez, 20 years old of Taunton MA. was arrested and charged with the following: 1) Operating under the influence of alcohol  2) Negligent operation of a motor vehicle  3) Passing violation 4) Speeding  5) Possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle   6) Minor in Possession of Alcohol.  She is due in Taunton District court on Monday to be arraigned on the charges.
