PRESS RELEASE
On 11/18/2014 at 5:50 PM the Rehoboth Police responded to the area of 527 Winthrop St. for a report of Police Cruiser being struck by another vehicle. Ptlm. Craig Forget radioed the station to report his police cruiser had just been struck by a passing truck. Upon arrival responding officers observed a Rehoboth Police cruiser parked in the break down with its emergency lights activated. The cruiser had heavy left side damage. Ptlm. Forget sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to R.I. Hospital.
After investigation it was determined that Ptlm. Craig Forget had just pulled over to investigate a Motor Vehicle Crash involving another car and a deer. Just as the Officer was starting to exit his vehicle, a box truck side swiped the cruiser causing severe damage to driver’s side door, side view mirror and the front end. The operator of the box truck was identified as Donald Dyer of Rehoboth. The operator of the box truck made no attempt to slow down or move to left to avoid a collision with the police cruiser even though its emergency lights were activated.
Mr. Dyer was issued a citation for Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He was also cited under the Commonwealths’ “Move over” Law.
The incident is being investigated by Sgt. Norman Todd, and Ptlm. Jacob Miranda.
