On 01/30/15 at approx. 2210 hrs the Rehoboth Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Winthrop St. (Rte. 44) and Wilmarth Bridge Road for the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival Officer Craig Forget discovered two vehicles were involved in the crash and both suffered heavy front end damage. While investigating the crash it was determined the vehicle being driven by Laurie Ovalles (age 55 from Bristol RI) had failed to stop at the intersection with Rte. 44 while she traveling south on Wilmarth Bridge Road. Ovalles failed to stop at the stop sign and continued across Winthrop St. striking the second vehicle that was traveling east on Winthrop St. and occupied by two Dighton residents. Rehoboth Fire Department and Ambulance Personnel assisted at the scene. Both female passengers of the second vehicle were transported to Sturdy Hospital for believed to be non-life threatening injuries. As a result of Officer Forget’s investigation Ovalles was arrested at the scene and charged with OUI Alcohol , Negligent Operation of a M/V, and Failure to stop/yield at an intersection. Ovalles was later released on bail and is due to be arraigned in Taunton District Court on 02/02/15. Officer Thomas Ranley and Sgt. James Medeiros assisted with the crash
