David G. Melanson, Jr. arrested for Larceny

On March 23, 2011 at 5:15 p.m. Rehoboth Police reported the arrest of David G. Melanson Jr, age 17, of 319 Fairview Avenue, Rehoboth Ma. for the charge of Larceny over $250 (Felony).  Earlier in the day, Patrolman Keith Perry and Sergeant Richard Shailor conducted an investigation into the theft of property from a Rehoboth residence.   Based on the officer’s investigation, they were able to recover a Hitachi Table saw valued at $400 and took Melanson into custody for the theft.  Melanson was booked and processed for the theft.  Bail Clerk Marc Santos set bail at $50,000 cash bail.   Melanson was held overnight at the Bristol County House of Corrections and was brought into Taunton District Court on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. for arraignment on the charges.   The investigation continues at this time by the Rehoboth Police Department Detective Division as they attempt to recover more stolen items involved in this case.

Sebestian S. Winter Assault and Battery Arrest

On March 22, 2011 at 3:44 p.m. Rehoboth Police report the arrest of Sebestian S. Winter, age 20, of 94 Rocky Hill Road, Rehoboth, Ma. for the following charges: 1) Assault and Battery With a Dangerous Weapon  2) Assault and Battery.   Shortly before Winter’s arrest police were called to a domestic disturbance at 94 Rocky Hill Road.   Patrolman Matthew Gardner, Patrolman Keith Perry and Sergeant Mark Rossi responded to the scene.  Upon their arrival, they met with the victim, Craig Winter, age 41 of that address and brother of the suspect Sebestian Winter.  Craig Winter was bleeding from the nose and Rehoboth Ambulance personnel were called to the scene.  The officers conducted an investigation at the scene and determined that a Sebestian Winter had assaulted Craig Winter with a broom handle and had also pushed him through a window causing it to shatter.  The brothers had gotten into the physical altercation because Sebestian Winter had reportedly threatened his mother, Cheryl Winter, age 64, earlier in the day and had summoned her older son, Craig Winter to the scene to help her.   When the elder Winter brother arrived at the residence the altercation reportedly erupted.  Sebestian Winter was taken into custody at the scene for the assault charges and transported to police headquarters for processing.  Craig Winter was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for treatment of facial injuries.   Bail Clerk Claudia Abreau set bail at $540.00 cash on Sebestian Winter.  He was unable to post bail and was transported to the Bristol County House of Corrections to be held overnight.  Sebestian Winter will be arraigned on the charges in Taunton District Court on Wednesday morning, March 23, 2011 at 8:30 a.m.

Luis D. Acosta arrested for Motor Vehicle violations

On March 19, 2011 at 8:27 p.m. Rehoboth Police report the arrest of Luis D. Acosta, age 21, of 1047 Dexter Street, 3rd floor, Central Falls, R.I. for the following charges: 1) Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2) Failure to Stop for the Police 3) Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and other motor vehicle violations such as speeding, uninsured motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle and registration plate violation.   Shortly before his arrest, Acosta was seen operating a black Jeep Cherokee east on Rte 44 and at the intersection the vehicle went through the red traffic light at the intersection of Rte 118.  When Sergeant James Medeiros attempted to stop the black Jeep it sped up and accelerated away from the Sergeant as he pursued it with the cruiser’s lights and siren activated.  The black jeep sped through a second red light on Rte 44 at the intersection of New Street and the pursuit reached speeds of 90-95 mph.  Rehoboth Patrolman Paul McGovern joined the pursuit as the vehicle sped into Dighton and then Taunton on Route 44.  The black Jeep sped through several side streets nearly crashing several times before it was brought to a stop on Hodges Street in Taunton.   The suspect, Acosta, was taken into custody by Sgt. Medeiros, Ptl. McGovern and officers from the Taunton Police Department and the Raynham Police K-9 officer.   Acosta was transported back to Rehoboth Police Headquarters where he was booked and processed.  Bail Clerk Marc Santos later set bail at $1040.00 cash but Acosta was unable to post bail.  He was later transported to the Bristol County House of Correction and held for the weekend.  Acosta was to be brought into Taunton District Court this morning, March 21, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. for arraignment on the charges.   A second male subject that was inside the fleeing black Jeep Cherokee was detained at the scene and then released without charges.   This pursuit lasted for approx. 11 miles and wound through three communities.   There were no vehicles damaged and no one was injured in the pursuit.  This is the second pursuit over this past weekend involving Rehoboth Police.
