On 08/28/2013 the Rehoboth Police Department received a call reporting an erratic operator on Winthrop St. (Rt.44). The caller reported that the vehicle had been in more than one accident and was continuing East bound on Rt.44. It was later determined that the suspect vehicle had crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and struck a vehicle causing damage to the drivers side of both cars. It then continued East bound where it again crossed into the opposing lane of traffic striking a car carrier. The suspect vehicle then continued east bound before turning on to Baystate Rd. At this time, Officer Paul McGovern observed the vehicle travelling in the center of the roadway and had to swerve to avoid a collision. He attempted to stop the vehicle which then veered to the right and crashed for a third time, this time striking a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Baystate Rd. and Moulton St.
After subsequent investigation the operator of the vehicle Sandra Cunha, 64 of Rehoboth was arrested and charged with 1) Operating under the influence of Liquor 2) Negligent operation of a motor vehicle 3) Leaving the Scene of a property damage accident 4) Failure to stay in marked lanes
Cunha was released on bail and is due in Taunton District Court on 08/29/2013 for arraignment on the charges.
