Crash causes Fuel Spill & Traffic Problems

On Wednesday March 1, 2017 at approximately 1:05pm the Rehoboth Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Fall River Ave(Rt 6) near the Rehoboth/Swansea Town Line.   Preliminary investigation of the crash indicated that a passenger vehicle being operated west on Fall River crossed over the center dividing line and side swiped a semi tractor unit travelling east bound.  The collision caused  major damage to both vehicles.  The collision punctured the driver’s side saddle fuel tank of the tractor spilling diesel fuel across the roadway.  The operator of the passenger vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to Charlton Hospital in Fall River, the operator of the tractor unit was uninjured.  Rt.6 from Barney Ave in Rehoboth to Mason St in Swansea remained closed, except for one east bound lane, for several hours for clean- up due to a large debris field and fuel spill.   The crash is currently under investigation by the Rehoboth Police Department.  The Rehoboth Police Department was assisted at the scene by Rehoboth Fire, Rehoboth EMS, Swansea Police, Swansea Fire, Swansea EMS, Mass DOT, Mass DEP,  and the US Coast Guard.
