Suspect Arrested based on DNA Evidence

On 02/27/15 the Rehoboth Police Department took custody of Vincent Derrico, age37, of North Providence RI.  Derrico was being held as a fugitive from justice in RI based on an outstanding Rehoboth arrest warrant.  Derrico was wanted by the Rehoboth Police Department for breaking into a home on Pleasant Street in Rehoboth back in June 2012.  Rehoboth Detectives were able to link Derrico to the B&E through DNA evidence from blood collected from the crime scene.  Rehoboth Detectives were assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Forensic Services Group.  Derrico appeared in Taunton District Court on 02/27/15 and was arraigned on the felony charges of B&E Daytime , and Larceny over $250.

 

This is the third suspect in the past year Rehoboth Detectives were able to connect to past breaking and entering crimes in Rehoboth.

-Paul LaFrance, age 24 of Fall River (last known address), was recently linked to a December 2011 vehicle break-in and larceny crime on Chestnut St. through DNA evidence collected at the crime scene.

-Stephen Babbin, age 44 of Warwick RI and Carver MA, was recently linked to a December 2010 breaking and entering of a Plain Street home, DNA evidence collected at the crime scene linked Babbin to these crimes.

 

Rehoboth Detectives were assisted with the DNA evidence by the Massachusetts State Police Forensic Services Group.
