Police Investigate Illegal Dumping

            On Saturday, July 08, 2017 at approximately 1:18pm, Rehoboth Police were dispatched to a small bridge in the area of 190 Perryville Rd.  A resident of Perryville Rd called the Station and stated someone had dumped debris off the bridge and into the stream.  Upon arrival at the scene, the Officers observed a large amount of debris in the stream.  The Rehoboth Fire Department was dispatched to the scene for possible hazmat contamination.  The Fire Department examined the materials and determined there was little to no environmental impact.  The Fire Department removed the debris from the stream, and with the assistance of the Rehoboth Highway Department the debris was transported to the Highway Garage.  Once at the garage the debris was photo’d and examined by the Rehoboth Police Department.  Preliminary investigation indicates the debris was dumped into the stream sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning.  The appears to have originated from some type of Truck/Automotive Repair Facility.  The debris contained approximately a dozen used passenger vehicle type tires.  Several large capped and empty plastic containers of heavy duty diesel motor oil, anti-freeze, and hydraulic fluid.  There were also several large heavy duty buckets.  The incident is under investigation by the Rehoboth Police Department.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Rehoboth Police Department at 1-508-252-3722

Reckless Driving ends in Arrest

On 07/05/2017 Rehoboth Police Officer Nicholas Barros attempted to stop a Red Mercedes Benz on Tremont St. that was driving at a high rate of speed, 75 mph in a 35 mph zone. The vehicle failed to stop an increased it’s speed where it took a right onto Slater St. The Officer lost control of his cruiser and struck another vehicle that was stopping for the stop sign. The Officer reported no injuries to himself or the operator. A witness advised the Officer he observed the Mercedes pull down the driveway of 45 Slater St. and pull behind a barn. After a brief investigation the operator was located sitting on the back deck with several other males. He is identified as 28 year old Michael L Montanez of Oak St. Taunton . He is being charged with the following (1) Speeding (2) Passing in a no passing zone (3) Marked Lanes Violation (4) Refusing to Stop for Police (5) Reckless Operation (6) Attaching Plates (7) Uninsured Motor Vehicle and (8) Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

Cash Bail was set at $240. He will appear at Taunton District Court on )7/06/2017 at 8:30 am to answer to the charges. Assisting the Rehoboth Police Department was Seekonk K-9 and several Officers from their department. Officer Gill Lima and Lt. James B Medeiros assisted from Rehoboth.

Suspect Arrested after B&E Investigation

On 06/07/17 at 1:30p.m. Members of the Rehoboth Police Department responded to a residence on Bay State Road to investigate a suspicious vehicle on the property.  While responding to the area Officers learned the suspect had been seen exiting the home and loading items into the vehicle’s trunk.  While searching the area Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle on Bay State Road.  The driver and sole occupant, Nathaniel Gibbs 29 of New Bedford, was subsequently arrested.  During the course of the investigation numerous stolen items were recovered from the vehicle connecting the suspect to the break-in on Bay State Road as well as another home on Moulton Street.  Gibbs is being charged with two counts of Breaking and Entering, 2 counts Larceny from a building, 2 counts of malicious destruction of property, operation of m/v after license revoked. Gibbs also had several outstanding arrest warrants in Massachusetts and was wanted as Fugitive from justice in RI. Gibbs was held without bail pending his arraignment in Taunton District Court on 06/08/17.  Rehoboth Detective James Casey is handling the on-going investigation.

Rehoboth Police make OUI Arrest

On 04/26/17 at approx. 0145hrs the Rehoboth Police Department received a 911 call from a motorist reporting an erratic operator traveling east on Winthrop Street.  The caller reported a black pick-up truck was all over the roadway and had almost struck another vehicle head-on.  Sgt. Brian Ramos was in the area at the time of the call and immediately began searching for the vehicle.  A short time later the suspected vehicle was located traveling east on Winthrop Street. Once behind the vehicle Sgt. Ramos observed additional motor vehicle offenses and subsequently stopped the vehicle.  After a brief roadside investigation Danny Dallaleh, 23 of Taunton, was taken into custody for OUI Liquor, Operating M/V to endanger, Marked Lanes Violation and Speeding. Dallaleh was later released on bail and will be arraigned in Taunton District Court later today.

Driver gives False Name to Police

On 04/09/2017 Officer Craig Forget of the Rehoboth Police Department stopped a motor vehicle on Tremont St. for excessive speed. The operator of the vehicle attempted to hide his identity by giving Officer Forget a false name.  After further investigation Officer Forget with the assistance of Off. Jasson Ferreira identified the operator as  Kevin Gonzales, 36 years old of Warwick R.I. Gonzales had three outstanding Default warrants for his arrest and his license was under revoked.  One of the warrants stemmed from an incident in December of 2016 where Gonzales had run from the Rehoboth Police Dept., leading them on a high speed pursuit. He was later apprehend in Warwick by the R.I. State Police.  Along with the three warrants, Gonzales is being charged with Operating after revocation subsequent offense, giving a false name to a police officer, and speeding. He is being held on $4,000 cash bail and will be arraigned at Taunton District Court on 04/10/2017.

Crash causes Fuel Spill & Traffic Problems

          On Wednesday March 1, 2017 at approximately 1:05pm the Rehoboth Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Fall River Ave(Rt 6) near the Rehoboth/Swansea Town Line.   Preliminary investigation of the crash indicated that a passenger vehicle being operated west on Fall River crossed over the center dividing line and side swiped a semi tractor unit travelling east bound.  The collision caused  major damage to both vehicles.  The collision punctured the driver’s side saddle fuel tank of the tractor spilling diesel fuel across the roadway.  The operator of the passenger vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to Charlton Hospital in Fall River, the operator of the tractor unit was uninjured.  Rt.6 from Barney Ave in Rehoboth to Mason St in Swansea remained closed, except for one east bound lane, for several hours for clean- up due to a large debris field and fuel spill.   The crash is currently under investigation by the Rehoboth Police Department.  The Rehoboth Police Department was assisted at the scene by Rehoboth Fire, Rehoboth EMS, Swansea Police, Swansea Fire, Swansea EMS, Mass DOT, Mass DEP,  and the US Coast Guard.

Officers Investigate Crash & Arrest Driver

On 02/22/17 at approximately 6p.m. members of the Rehoboth Police Department were dispatched to the area of #138 Fairview Avenue for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles.  Upon arrival at the scene Officer Louis Dibacco and Lt. James Medeiros determined a red Nissan sedan was traveling north on Fairview Avenue and left its lane of travel and side swiped a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.    Upon further investigation it was determined the operator of the Nissan, identified as Gregg Moore age 40 of Rehoboth, was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.  Moore was subsequently taken into custody and charged with the following offenses: Oui Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating with a suspended License and Marked lanes violation.  Moore will be arraigned on the charges in Taunton District Court on 02/23/17.

Driver Arrested after Crash

On 02/19/2017 at approximately 1842 the Rehoboth Police Department was dispatched to the area of 35 Pond St. for a reported roll-over motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival Officers observed a 2017 Toyota Tundra Pick up truck on its drivers across both lanes of travel. A nearby telephone pole had been struck,  the pole and live wires were laying across the roadway.  The operator of the vehicle had extricated himself from the truck with the help of a resident. Due to his injuries the operator was transported to the hospital.  Off. Ferreira and Sgt. Shailor conducted an investigation at the scene and Off. DiBacco followed up with the operator at the hospital. Based on the evidence and interviews the operator Nolan Henry  29 of Perryville Rd. was arrested and charged with Operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.  He was booked and later released on his own recognizance. He will be arraigned on the charges Tuesday at Taunton District Court.

Rehoboth Man Arrested by SWAT Team

On 02/28/17 at approximately 21:55 hours Rehoboth Police received a 911 call from 14 Steber Way reporting a disturbance with family members possibly involving a firearm. On arrival Officers spoke to several family members who had fled the residence. The victim’s stated Piotr B Lakota age 50 of this address had made threats to harm them with a gun. Responding officers secured the perimeter. Due to the fact there were numerous firearms in the residence SEMLEC the regional tactical  swat team was activated. Taken into custody outside his residence a short time later was Piotr B Lakota. He is being charged with the following charges (1) 2 Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Domestic, (2) Resisting Arrest, (3) Disorderly Conduct, and (4) Seven Counts of Improper Storage of a Firearm. Mr. Lakota will be arraigned at Taunton District Court on 03/01/17 at 8:30 am.

Man Arrested for Lewd Conduct

          On January 12, 2017 at approximately 1:28pm, Rehoboth Police received an E-911 call from a 31 year old female Town resident.  The party stated that she was walking west on Pond St, preparing to go for a run when a vehicle approached her from behind and pulled along the side of her very slowly.  As she looked into the vehicle she observed the lone male operator masturbating and smiling at her.  At this time the victim stated she screamed, and the vehicle began backing up, turned around and left the area very fast eventually travelling east on Winthrop St.  The victim described the vehicle as a newer model black BMW sedan with no registration plates.  She also described the operator as a heavy set Hispanic looking male wearing a ski hat.

          Within minutes of the call, Detective James Casey who was returning to the Station from Taunton District Court, observed a vehicle which matched the above description travelling east on Winthrop St.  Detective Casey turned around and caught up to the vehicle as it turned into the Mannheim Auction House driveway.  Detective Casey then stopped the vehicle without incident.

After a brief roadside investigation, the operator of the suspect vehicle was arrested.   The suspect was then transported to the Police Station where he was processed,  bail was set at $2,040.00 cash bail.  The suspect was transported to the Bristol County House of Corrections in New Bedford.  The suspect, 41 year old Joao Claudio Silva-Galdino of New Milford Connecticut will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Friday January 13, 2017 on Rehoboth Police charges of Open and Gross Lewdness, Lewd Wanton and Lascivious Conduct, and Disorderly.  The incident is currently under Investigation by the Rehoboth Police Department.  The Rehoboth Police Department were assisted by the Dighton and Taunton Police Departments.
