Altercation Ends in Arrest

On 02/08/2014 at approximately 12:00 p.m. Rehoboth Police were dispatched to a reported verbal altercation between a mother and son.  Upon arrival the complainant requested an emergency 209A Restraining Order against the son and the on call judge, Judge Flynn, granted the order.  Officers tried to make contact with the son, but he refused to answer them so the officers forced open the door and contacted the suspect identified as Lance R. Oliveira, age 46, of 108 Chestnut Street, Rehoboth, MA.  As the order was being read to Mr. Oliveira officers observed handguns on the night stand.  One was a silver handgun that had a round in the chamber and Officer Ryan Brule placed the gun down on the bed and told Oliveira to put his hands behind his back for officer safety.  As officers attempted to handcuff the subject he lunged back towards the silver handgun that was on the bed and officers attempted to restrain him.  He actively resisted the officers and he continued to move towards the bed where the gun was located and he was finally restrained by the officers.  Oliveira was placed under arrest and then was booked, fingerprinted, and photographed and Clerk-Magistrate Marc Santos set bail at $10,040.  He was transported to the House of Corrections on Ash Street, New Bedford and he will be arraigned Monday 2/10/2014 at Taunton District Court on the charges of Possession of a Firearm without a License and Resisting Arrest.
