River St. Investigation Nets Arrest

            On Saturday January 19, 2018 at approximately 3:05 am,  Sgt. James Casey was traveling north on River St. when he came across a black Volkswagen Golf parked in the middle of the northbound lane of travel. The vehicle had its lights on and was running.  Sgt. Casey approached the vehicle and observed a female later identified as 28 year old Racquel Pacella of Seekonk sleeping in the driver’s seat.  Ptlm. Adam Brown and Ptlm. Douglas Brown arrived on scene just after Ms. Pacella woke up.  After a brief roadside investigation, which included field sobriety testing, Ms. Pacella was placed under arrest for Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. After being placed in custody Ms. Pacella was transported to the Rehoboth Police Department, where she was processed.  Ms. Pacella was later released on personal recognizance.  Ms. Pacella will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Tuesday January 22, 2018 on the charges of OUI Alcohol and Negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

OUI Arrest

            On Friday January 18, 2018 at approximately 1:37am,  Sgt. James M. Casey stopped a GMC Yukon on Winthrop St. (Rte 44) for speeding.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as 51 year old James Beeley of East Providence, Rhode Island.  After a brief roadside investigation, which included field sobriety testing, Mr. Beeley was placed under arrest for Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  During an inventory of the vehicle a Class B drug was found.  Mr. Beeley was transported to the Rehoboth Police Department, where he was processed.  Mr. Beeley was later released on $1,040.00 cash bail.  Mr. Beeley  will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Friday January 18, 2018 on the charges of OUI Alcohol, Operation of a motor vehicle as to endanger, possession of Class B and Speeding.

Weekend OUI Arrest made

On 01/12/19 at 1907 hrs  The Rehoboth Police Department received a call regarding an erratic operator on Bay State Road. The caller stated that the vehicle was driving approx. 5 mph and driving all over the roadway.  Officers responded to the area and a short time later Officer Lima came into contact with the vehicle on County Street in Rehoboth. After a brief roadside investigation that included field sobriety testing, the operator Robert Alexion, age 69 of Dighton, was placed in custody and charged with Operating under the influence of Liquor, Operating to Endanger, and a Marked lanes Violation. Alexion was released from police custody on personal recognizance and is due in Taunton District Court on 01/14/2019 to be arraigned on the charges.

OUI Arrest made over Holiday Weekend

On 12/30/2018 The Rehoboth Police Department received a call regarding an erratic operator on Rt. 44 (Winthrop St.). The caller stated that the vehicle was weaving, slowing down a speeding up for no reason and at one point crossed into the opposite lane of traffic.  Officers responded to the area and a short time later Sgt. Richard W. Shailor came in contact with the vehicle. He observed the vehicle travelling over the fog line and nearly strike several signs and mailboxes. The range rover was stopped on Anawan St. by Sgt. Shailor and Off. Pezzuolo. After a brief roadside investigation that included field sobriety testing, the operator   ZELIA FERREIRA-BARBERY 55, of Peck St. Rehoboth was placed in custody and charged with Operating under the influence of Liquor, Operating to Endanger, and a Marked lanes Violation.  She is due in Taunton District Court on 12/31/2018 to be arraigned on the charges

OUI Arrest made during Grant Deployment

On Friday December 28, 2018, Ptlm. Gilbert Lima was assigned to a Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau grant targeting individuals operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.  At approximately 2:14am,  Ptlm. Lima was traveling east on Winthrop St. in the area of Rte 118 when he observed a black Volkswagen Passat with a Rhode Island registration traveling westbound on Winthrop St.  He noted the vehicle’s speed to be well in excess of the posted 45mph speed limit and confirmed its speed to be 61mph via his vehicle’s cruiser mounted radar unit.  Ptlm. Lima conducted a motor vehicle stop of the Volkswagen Passat in the area of 342 Winthrop St.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as 28 year old Kimberly Bettencourt of East Providence, Rhode Island.  After a brief roadside investigation, which included field sobriety testing, Ms. Bettencourt was placed under arrest for Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  Ms. Bettencourt was transported to the Rehoboth Police Department, where she was processed.  Ms. Bettencourt was later released on personal recognizance.  Ms. Bettencourt will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Friday December 28, 2018 on the charges of OUI Alcohol, Negligent Operation of a motor vehicle, and Speeding.

Suspect Charged after Crash

On Sunday 12/01/2018 at approximately 21:05 hrs. Officer Gil Lima observed a vehicle travelling west bound on Winthrop St. (Rt.44) at a high rate of speed.  He attempted to stop that vehicle at which time the suspect accelerated and began to pass several cars in an attempt to allude Officer Lima.  He was able to catch up to the suspect vehicle in the area of Williams St. The suspect then reversed direction before continuing northbound on Williams St. Upon reaching the intersection at Anawan St. the vehicle lost control and struck a tree directly in front of the Police and Fire headquarters. The suspect then continued South on Anawan St. before turning back west bound on Winthrop St.. The suspect continued to operate in an unsafe manner travelling at extremely high rates of speed and passing vehicles in an unsafe manner. Officer Lima lost sight of the vehicle and the Seekonk Police were advised of the vehicle description. A short time later Officer Lima and Seekonk Officers found that the suspect vehicle had again crashed, this time just over the Seekonk line on Rt.44. The large SUV had crossed into the eastbound lane, struck the guardrail, continued for a short distance before striking a tree. The suspect had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Seekonk Fire Department and was later transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

 

The suspect was identified Jonathan Cruz 33 years old of Rehoboth. Cruz will be summonsed in on the following charges:

Failure to Stop for Police, Operating to Endanger, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage, Speeding, Failure to Yield, Marked Lanes Violations

O.U.I. Arrest

            On Saturday December 1, 2018 at approximately 2:27am,  Ptlm. Nicholas Miranda stopped a gray Volkswagen Jetta on Winthrop St. (Rte 44) for speeding.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as 27 year old Caytlin Waterman of Somerset.  After a brief roadside investigation, which included field sobriety testing, Ms. Waterman was placed under arrest for Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  Ms. Waterman was transported to the Rehoboth Police Department, where she was processed.  Ms. Waterman was later released on personal recognizance.  Ms. Waterman will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Monday December 3, 2018 on the charges of OUI Alcohol, Operation of a motor vehicle as to endanger, and Speeding.

Rehoboth Officers make Assault Arrest

On 11/28/2018 Officers responded to #95 Barney Ave. for the report of an ongoing physical disturbance.  Upon arrival officers found several parties still on scene.  After speaking with all parties involved and completing an on scene investigation Officer Beaudoin placed 30 year old Paul Gonsalves of Bristol, RI under arrest.  Gonsalves has been charged with 1) Assault & Battery with a dangerous weapon, 2) Assault & Battery, and 3) Destruction of property over $1200.00.  Gonsalves was transported to the Rehoboth police department for booking, his bail was set at $2540.00. Gonsalves was unable to post bail and was later transported to ASH St. jail in New Bedford, where he is being held until his arraignment on 11/29/2018.

Erratic Driver Arrested for OUI

On 10/19/2018 at approximately 10:50 PM the Rehoboth Police department received a call for a vehicle being driven erratically on Winthrop St. (Route 44) The caller stated that the vehicle was traveling in the opposite lane and was passing in a no passing zone at a high rate of speed. A short time later Ptlm. Lima found the vehicle in question and observed it traveling over the double yellow lines on the roadway. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the female operator. After a short investigation the operator of the Jeep Compass was taken into custody. She was transported to the station for booking and was later released on bail. Selina K. Foster of Taunton will appear in the Taunton District on Monday on the following charges:

Rehoboth Arrest One for OUI

On 10/14/2018 at approximately 03:17 AM,  Sgt. Richard W. Shailor of the Rehoboth Police Department observed a vehicle operating erratically on Winthrop St. (Rt.44.)  As the vehicle passed the intersection of Rt.44 and Rt. 118 it nearly drove off of the roadway and just missed striking the traffic signal.  The vehicle was stopped a short distance later and the operator was identified as Luis Ortiz 41 of Taunton MA.  After a brief roadside investigation, Ortiz was placed in custody and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle and a Marked Lanes Violation. He was booked and later transported to the Ash St. Jail. He will be in Taunton District court on Monday to be arraigned on the charges.
