Rehoboth Police Respond to a B&E in Progress

On Thursday July 31, 2014 at approximately 1410 hrs (2:10 p.m.) Rehoboth Police were dispatched to 24 Pierce Lane for the report of a Breaking & Entering into a dwelling that was in progress.   While en route officers learned that the a female resident had just discovered an unknown male standing in her kitchen.  The resident then ran and locked herself in the first floor bathroom and stayed on the 911  line with the Dispatcher until the police arrived.  Ptlm. Louis DiBacco, Lt. Michael Brady and Sgt. Norman Todd arrived on scene simultaneously and discovered that point of entry appeared to be a first floor kitchen window located in the rear of the home.  The window was open and the screen had been pried open and a number of household items stored just inside the window had been knocked over.   The officers were unable to locate the offender after conducting a search of the home and outlying area, including an adjacent golf course.

The victim explained that she was awakened by her dog barking at approximately 1405 hrs (2:05 p.m.)  and that she then heard some banging noises in the home.  When she entered the kitchen area to see what the noises were, she saw a white male, approximately 35-40 years of age with a crew-cut type hair standing in her kitchen.  She further described the male as 5’7″ to 5’8″ wearing a black t-shirt with the word “Boston” printed across the front.  When the intruder saw the victim, he reportedly uttered an expletive and then ran towards the kitchen window.

The victim’s mother arrived on scene while the officers were present and she informed the officers that nothing appeared to be missing from the home except a bottle of Canada Dry ginger ale.  The Canada Dry ginger ale was stored in the cooler on the porch in close proximity of the open kitchen window.  The scene was photographed and processed by both Det. Jasson Ferreira and Det. Nicole Eastwood.  Sgt. Todd conducted a area canvass which produced negative results.  If anyone has any information regarding this incident please call Rehoboth Police at (508) 252-3722 and ask for either Detective Ferreira or Eastwood.
