On 02/19/2017 at approximately 1842 the Rehoboth Police Department was dispatched to the area of 35 Pond St. for a reported roll-over motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival Officers observed a 2017 Toyota Tundra Pick up truck on its drivers across both lanes of travel. A nearby telephone pole had been struck,  the pole and live wires were laying across the roadway.  The operator of the vehicle had extricated himself from the truck with the help of a resident. Due to his injuries the operator was transported to the hospital.  Off. Ferreira and Sgt. Shailor conducted an investigation at the scene and Off. DiBacco followed up with the operator at the hospital. Based on the evidence and interviews the operator Nolan Henry  29 of Perryville Rd. was arrested and charged with Operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.  He was booked and later released on his own recognizance. He will be arraigned on the charges Tuesday at Taunton District Court.

On 02/28/17 at approximately 21:55 hours Rehoboth Police received a 911 call from 14 Steber Way reporting a disturbance with family members possibly involving a firearm. On arrival Officers spoke to several family members who had fled the residence. The victim’s stated Piotr B Lakota age 50 of this address had made threats to harm them with a gun. Responding officers secured the perimeter. Due to the fact there were numerous firearms in the residence SEMLEC the regional tactical  swat team was activated. Taken into custody outside his residence a short time later was Piotr B Lakota. He is being charged with the following charges (1) 2 Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Domestic, (2) Resisting Arrest, (3) Disorderly Conduct, and (4) Seven Counts of Improper Storage of a Firearm. Mr. Lakota will be arraigned at Taunton District Court on 03/01/17 at 8:30 am.

          On January 12, 2017 at approximately 1:28pm, Rehoboth Police received an E-911 call from a 31 year old female Town resident.  The party stated that she was walking west on Pond St, preparing to go for a run when a vehicle approached her from behind and pulled along the side of her very slowly.  As she looked into the vehicle she observed the lone male operator masturbating and smiling at her.  At this time the victim stated she screamed, and the vehicle began backing up, turned around and left the area very fast eventually travelling east on Winthrop St.  The victim described the vehicle as a newer model black BMW sedan with no registration plates.  She also described the operator as a heavy set Hispanic looking male wearing a ski hat.

          Within minutes of the call, Detective James Casey who was returning to the Station from Taunton District Court, observed a vehicle which matched the above description travelling east on Winthrop St.  Detective Casey turned around and caught up to the vehicle as it turned into the Mannheim Auction House driveway.  Detective Casey then stopped the vehicle without incident.

After a brief roadside investigation, the operator of the suspect vehicle was arrested.   The suspect was then transported to the Police Station where he was processed,  bail was set at $2,040.00 cash bail.  The suspect was transported to the Bristol County House of Corrections in New Bedford.  The suspect, 41 year old Joao Claudio Silva-Galdino of New Milford Connecticut will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Friday January 13, 2017 on Rehoboth Police charges of Open and Gross Lewdness, Lewd Wanton and Lascivious Conduct, and Disorderly.  The incident is currently under Investigation by the Rehoboth Police Department.  The Rehoboth Police Department were assisted by the Dighton and Taunton Police Departments.

          On January 12, 2017 at approximately 7:20pm, Rehoboth Police Dispatch received a cell call from a motorist  reporting a vehicle being operated erratically travelling north on Anawan St.  The call described the vehicle as a full size pick-up truck.  Officers were dispatched to the area and located the suspect vehicle in the area of Anawan and Tremont streets.  At this time Officer Ranley observed that the right front tire of this vehicle was flat and the vehicle was operating on its rim.  Officer Ranley conducted a stop of this vehicle on Tremont St, just west of Anawan St.  After a road side investigation that included field sobriety testing, the operator of the vehicle was placed under arrest.  The suspect was transported to the Station where he was processed and he was later released on personal recognizance by the bail clerk.  The operator, 37 year old Louis J Walker III of Wrentham, will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Friday January 13, 2017 on the following charges: OUI Liquor, Negligent Operation of a motor vehicle, Operating an uninsured motor vehicle, Operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration, Operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and wrongfully attaching plates to a motor vehicle.

On 12-23-2016 Rehoboth Police received a call from the Child Advocacy Center in Fall River, MA requesting an Officer to respond to their location to interview a juvenile who was alleging a past assault committed by a parent.  Also, Dighton Police Officer Gregg Steele responded to the Rehoboth Police Department to inform Rehoboth Police that Dighton Rehoboth High School officials noticed physical injuries to the juvenile and these injuries were photographed by Dighton Police. Dighton Police obtained a statement from the juvenile who alleged the injuries were caused by his father, Brandon Defaria. The juvenile was brought to the Department of Children & Families office by his grandmother and then later was transported to the Child Advocacy Center for an interview.  Rehoboth Police Officer Jasson Ferreira contacted the Department of Children & Families and the agency confirmed that the incident has already been reported to them and that Investigator Justin Volpe was assigned to investigate the matter.  Detective James Casey responded to the Child Advocacy Center in Fall River and after speaking with the juvenile, Detective Casey informed Officer Ferreira that there was probable cause to arrest the alleged perpetrator.   Rehoboth Police responded to the residence of Brandon Defaria responded to attempt to take him into custody.  Officer Gregory Decastro established contact with Brandon Defaria “via” his cellular phone and requested he come outside, the request was initially refused.  However, a short time later Defaria complied with the request and he was arrested without incident by Officer Decastro. Brandon Defaria was transported to the station in vehicle 13 and booked in the usual manner and charged with four (4) counts of Assault & Battery on a family member.  Bail was set at $240.00 by Clerk-Magistrate Marc Santos and Defaria will be transported to Bristol County Sheriff Office Lock-up located at Ash Street in New Bedford, MA.

On 12/06/2016 at approx. 1500hrs the Rehoboth Police Department was contacted by the clerk of a local convenience store concerning the passing of several counterfeit $20 bills.  Upon arrival Detective James Casey met with the clerk who reported two male parties had recently come into the store and purchased items using what was later determined to be fake $20 bills. When a third male entered the store and attempted a similar purchase the clerk then noticed the money was labeled “for motion picture use only” and he confronted the male regarding the bill.  The male fled the area in a black sedan with what he believed was the other two male parties who had made the prior purchases.  Detective Casey was quickly able to develop a suspect in the case based on similar recent activity which was under investigation.  Officer Craig Forget was able to locate the suspect vehicle in the area of Roberts Road in Rehoboth at which time he made contact with the occupants.  Additional investigation at the scene resulted in the arrest of the male operator identified as Brandon Ralph, age 18 of Rehoboth, and a juvenile passenger. Inside the vehicle officers discovered a large quantity of varying denomination fake $20 and $50 bills. It was later learned the fake money was intended for motion picture use only and was bought by one of the suspects on the internet.  Detective James Casey later executed a search warrant at a Rehoboth home and recovered additional evidence of the crime(s) and took an additional Juvenile into custody at the residence.  At this time Detective Casey is continuing his investigation into the possibility of more victims in the area as well as additional suspects.  All suspects are being charged with Uttering a counterfeit note, Possessing a counterfeit note, Cospiracy, and Larceny under $250. Ralph and the two Juveniles are due in Taunton District Court on 12-07-16 for arraignment.

On 12/03/2016 at approximately 2057hrs the Rehoboth Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a vehicle parked in the roadway on Lake Street with an unresponsive male driver behind the wheel.  The caller reported the driver was not responding to the callers attempts to wake him and the vehicle was still running and in gear.  Upon arrival Officer Louis Dibacco located a black Nissan sedan stopped in the southbound travel lane on Lake St. in the area of Bassam Drive.  Upon investigating the incident Officer Dibacco observed a male party unconscious in the driver’s seat with his foot on the brake pedal and the vehicle still in drive.  It took several attempts to raise the male party who was determined to have been sleeping.  Upon speaking with the operator Officer Dibacco detected signs of impairment and he conducted a further investigation. Subsequently Richard Amaral, age 50 of Seekonk MA, was taken into custody and charged with OUI Liquor and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Amaral was taken to the Rehoboth Police Station for processing and later released by the Bail Clerk on personal recognizance. Sgt. Norman Todd assisted Officer Dibacco with his investigation and arrest.

On 11/21/2016 the Rehoboth Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a resident on Kingsley Way. The caller reported a vehicle had driven into their backyard and then stopped. Upon arrival officers found the vehicle as described, parked in the back yard of the home. The witnesses stated that they had seen the vehicle drive across a large open field and then into and across the backyard of the residence. Officers Terrence Hedrick, Louis DiBacco, and Sgt. Richard Shailor made contact with the female operator who was disoriented and confused. She was identified as Grace Santos, 50 years old of New Bedford MA.  After further investigation Santos was placed into custody and charged with 1) Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and 2) Negligent Operation of a motor vehicle.  She was bailed and later released on personal recognizance. She will be arraigned at Taunton District Court on 11/22/2016.

On 08/03/2016 the Rehoboth Police Department, along with Rehoboth Fire Department and Ambulance Personnel, were dispatched to the area of #299 Providence Street for the report of a motor vehicle accident.  It was reported to the Rehoboth Police a vehicle had struck a utility pole and the wires and vehicle were in the roadway.  Upon arrival on scene officers determined one vehicle was involved and the vehicle’s driver and sole occupant suffered minor injuries.  The driver was identified as Timothy Beel, age 23, of Pleasant Hill CA.  Further investigation at the scene revealed Beel was operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.  Beel was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to Sturdy Hospital.  Arresting Officers Craig Forget and David Aguiar are continuing their investigation into the crash.  Beel was later brought back to the Rehoboth Police Department where he was booked and charged with Operating a M/V under the Influence of Alcohol, Negligent Operation of a M/V, Marked Lanes Violation, and Wanton Dest. Of Property.  The crash resulted in significant property damage to the utility pole and power lines, including power outages in the area.
